Weekend Fun Guide (Feb 15-17 2013)

Happy Family Day weekend!  Celebrate your family this weekend by doing things together and creating memories.  There are many Winter Festivals taking place this weekend or enjoy some time skiing, snowshoeing or tubing as a family!

Bayfield

Family Fun Day (Sunday only) – Activities include Free skating: 1 to 3PM, Clowns with face painting 2 to 4PM, Hot dogs, make your own sundae and crafts for the kids!

Brantford

Frosty Fest – Enjoy the returns of the popular ice carving, horse-drawn trolley rides, figure skating shows, a stree midway, free skating, pony rides, free Kids Zone games and fun winter fare like snow taffy!

Brockville

Front of Yonge Winter Festival – Family fun for everyone! Childrens games, food, magic show, prizes, silent auction, bake sales, horse drawn wagon rides and so much more. Fireworks and family skate night.

Burlington

Battle of the Titans @ Royal Botanical Gardens – Dinos like you’ve never seen them before!  In this battle for the ages, you will learn about ecology, the study of organisms and the environment that these majestic creatures lived through so long ago. Get ready to go back in time and see how science and nature come together in one amazing exhibit!

Campbellville

Moonlight Snowshoe Hike @ Crawford Lake Conservation Area – Discover the magic of winter at night, the snow illuminated by moonlight and the stars bright in the night sky. Our knowledgeable guides will lead you on a snowshoe hike through this beautiful landscape. Hikes take place every Saturday evening in January and February from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each hike begins with basic instruction and some historical background on the sport of snowshoeing.

Season of the Snowsnake @ Crawford Lake Conservation Area – Explore the beautiful snowy landscape on a pair of snowshoes courtesy of Crawford’s rental program. Join staff for guided tours of the reconstructed Iroquoian Village at 11am1pm and 3pm.  Each tour will have a unique focus such as games, archaeology or storytelling.   Warm up after the tour with a complimentary cup of nature’s tea. Children can create a craft or enjoy a discovery hunt from 10am to 4pm.

Cobourg

Winter Festivities – Come join us for the first 3 Saturdays in February. Free skating & music at the outdoor rink, horse drawn wagon rides, ice carving demonstrations, maple candy station, NZone Kids Club at Northumberland Mall and much more.

Collingwood

There’s no better way to spend Family Day Weekend than at Blue Mountain Village!  With lots of free events and activities – there’s something to do for everyone including Skating on the Mill Pond, The Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, Horse & Wagon rides, Interactive Drumming Shows, Birds in Flight, Guided Snowshoeing Tours, Scavenger Hunts, Firedance Shows & Fireworks!

Winterfest – Great lineup of things for the whole family to enjoy. Winter Carnival – This year’s theme is Superstition.  Join in the weekend of fun filled events including a Parade, horse and carriage rides, puppet shows, fireworks, Snow sculptures, magic show, food, fun and so much more!

Haliburton

Frostfest – Starting with a Pancake breakfast at the Haliburton Legion Hall to warm the soul, this day is geared for excitement for all ages including horse drawn wagon rides, snow taffy, art activities, pony rides, dogsledding, skating,ice fishing demo, snowshoeing, broomball and lots more. End the day with a tasty Lasagna Dinner at the Haliburton United Church.

Hamilton

Kidsfest @ Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum – Bounce, laugh & play in this family day weekend in Southern Ontario’s largest indoor inflatable festival. Children’s entertainment, rides, kids market place, & full access to the museum.

Honey Harbour

Winterfest – Winterfest  features a hot Georgian shore-lunch of deep fried fish & fries, hot-dogs, beans, cole-slaw with warming drinks, ice rink activities, snowshoe lessons, a student art exhibit and a big Raffle with great prizes donated by local businesses in support of the Co-op’s activities.

WinterActive – Winter Active is designed to help Orillians improve their health while having fun enjoying the best of Canada’s winter. The idea is to encourage residents to ‘Get up, go out and be Winter Active!’ Take part in a cardboard toboggan race, enjoy a skate party, play snow volleyball,  take part in some winter games or enjoy some of the many other activities.

Ottawa

Winterlude – A unique winter festival featuring snow and ice sculpture competitions, snow playgrounds, skating, sporting events and let’s not forget the world’s largest skating rink. Celebrate the joys of winter at Winterlude, with three fun-filled weeks in February. Canada’s favourite winter activities are featured across Ottawa and Gatineau at this annual event.

Frosty Fortunes @ The Currency Museum –  See how our country’s chilliest season has influenced the art and design of Canadian currency throughout history. Each weekend during Winterlude, you and your family can come and enjoy cool crafts, games and presentations, all inspired by this frosty time of year. We’ll even have some nice hot cocoa and coffee to warm you up from the chill outside. Admission is free for the whole family.

Sportsfest – It is a city-wide, family-friendly, community Festival of Sports event that attracts participants from across Niagara, with proceeds going to various charities.  The Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament, indoor volleyball, family skating, ball hockey, trivia and family skating are just some of the events that are traditionally offered to the public
