Weekend Fun Guide (June 21-23 2013)


Well it is officially summer and there is only one more week of school until Summer Vacation begins!  Who’s excited?  Whether you’re renting a cottage or hitting a Water Park always be sure to check out our Weekend Fun Guide as we have you covered across Ontario.  This weekend you can take in a Ribfest, enjoy a multicultural Festival, indulge at a Strawberry Festival or enjoy one of the other fun things listed below. Whatever you plan, have a great first weekend of Summer 2013!

The Circus is Coming to Town!!  


Starting in Rexdale on June 21st, the Shrine Circus will be making stops in Ontario and Quebec to bring the fun of the circus to families!  Check out all the information here


Thinking about taking in a movie with the family this weekend?  Check out what’s playing on Saturday mornings at Cineplex theatres for their Family Favourites.  At 11:00am you can watch a movie for only $2.50!  You can also load the family into the car and head to a drive-in near you for some family fun!

Blue Mountains

Salsa at Blue – A FREE family street party transforms the Village into a showcase of Latin Life with pulsating music, passionate dancing and lessons, fiery foods, kids soccer entertainment, sizzling night life & FIREWORKS! Bronte Creek Family Fun Day @ Courtcliffe Park – Join Trout Unlimited Canada creekside to learn all about the critters that call Bronte Creek home!! Free! Fun, prizes! All welcome!


Huron’s Multicultural Festival – Stage performances by Japanese, First Nations & Brazilian percussion troupes. Ojibway Storyteller Aaron Bell, International out-door games, indigenous crafts and opportunity to sample culinary delicacies & beverages from around the world. Programming features music & dance from around the world geared to appeal to a broad range of age groups and activity levels.


International Food Fest – London International Food Festival is the host to an array of savoury dishes from around the globe. Partake in games, food and fun in this annual London, Ontario event.


Strawberry Summerfest – Events include a Kid Zone, music and entertainment, movie night and Show n’ Shine. There will also be a soccer tournament, baseball tournament, Sunday church service at the Community Centre and breakfast served at the Legion.


Agricultural Fair Weekend – Celebrating 125 years the Maxville Fair is a 4 day event. Features cattle, horse and horticultural events as well as shows and entertainment. Food available on site, Concert on Sat. June 22 features Emerson Drive.


Strawberry Festival –  Come out and try everything strawberry until your hearts desire.  Enjoy the fun of this event at the Milton Fairground on Saturday June 22 with entertainment, fun for the kids, vendors and of course lots and lots of fresh strawberries!

Niagara Falls

Fireworks over the Falls – Canada’s longest-running fireworks series is underway with fireworks every Friday, Sunday, and holiday until September 1, preceded by the popular Coca Cola Concert Series on the Victoria Park Stage. The best views are in Queen Victoria Park overlooking Niagara Falls.


Oakville Family Ribfest – The Second Annual Oakville Family Ribfest is a fabulous summer event combining world famous ‘ribbers’, food vendors, great music, a kids’ Play Zone, Sport Zone, artisans and more. Summer fun for all ages.

Kerr Village Summer Celebration – Kerr Village presents the Carousel of Nations for the sixth year running. Part summerfest. Part multi-cultural festival. Total family fun. Pavilions from “around the world” showcase traditional arts and crafts, singing and dancing, and ethnic cuisine. Adults and children will enjoy live musical performances throughout the day. Don’t miss The KidsZone. Free admission.


TD Ottawa Jazz Festival – Nestled in the heart of beautiful downtown Ottawa, scores of music fans travel to enjoy the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, featuring some of the jazz worlds most renowned and cutting-edge musicians.

Dragon Boat Festival – Come out and enjoy North America’s largest Dragon Boat Festival.  The festival will include: Multicultural performances including live music, cultural presentations, and ceremonial activities, Roving entertainment, Children’s area featuring award winning family entertainment, Beer Garden, Food Vendors featuring international cuisine and summer desserts, Exhibitions and shopping opportunities.

Ribfest on Sparks Street Teams from Canada and the United States will competing for the top rank of best rib choice, best rib sauce, best chicken choice and best chicken sauce.


PoultryFest – Don’t miss the 14th annual PoultryFest celebration on June 22nd 2013! It’s going to be buckets of fun! Admission is free so join us for a jam packed day of food and frolic in Smithville.  You’ll be entertained all day with shows, competitions, historical and educational displays, kid’s activities and lots to eat!!


Strawberry Spectacular – Enjoy entertainment, beef on a bun, water and …. of course….strawberrries and ice-cream. Join us and take a tour of the past, you’ll have a blast. A great value for the entire family.  Great Value…Great Day!


Blues and Ribfest – A three day summer festival featuring live blues music, world-class ribs, a  variety of quality non-rib food options,  and a beer garden for our Blues/Rib-loving friends 18 and over.


Hometown Turkey Festival – Say yes to Turkeyfest!  Have fun on the midway, enjoy vendor alley, entertainment, the car show and  hot air balloon rides and be sure to check out all the contests and competitions .  Oh, and don’t forget the turkey dinner!!


Art of Eating Festival – The Art of Eating Food & Wine Festival is a celebration of food, wine, beer and entertainment in this beautiful waterfront setting nestled on Lake St Clair in Tecumseh, Ontario. Come and join us as we enjoy the art of eating with food, award-winning wines, beer and great music! Must be 19 years or older.

Family FunFest – Funfest takes place at Memorial Park in Tilbury, with a special downtown kickoff Friday from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.  There will be a Petting zoo, Zero Gravity Circus, WWII military display, hypnotist Fernandez, kids crafts, puppet show and midway rides, games and live entertainment.
Chi-Cheemaun Festival – Come on out for a great weekend of fun, games, BBQ’s and more in Tobermory to celebrate the Chi-Cheemaun.

Wasaga Beach

Wasaga Beach Fest – Once again the Wasaga Beach Fest marks the official start of summer and ignites the area’s biggest beach party.  The festivities start at noon each day with a guarantee to get your body moving and your heart racing.  And there’s something for everyone.  The festival also features a variety of food and a children’s amusement area against a backdrop of a sandy beach and the hot sun for all to enjoy at the Wasaga Beach Fest.


Summer Fest – Summer Fest is the annual event in Windsor, ON downtown that signifies the start of summer. This year’s dates are June 13 – July 1. Highlights include the Tug Boat Race on June 22, The Rediscover the Riverfront by bike on June 23, Summer Fest Riverfront Fireworks Party June 24, the Summer Fest Weekend Concert Series June 16,23 and July 1, World’s Finest Shows Midways, and it all Wraps up July 1 with the spectacular Canada Day Parade, Giant 5000 Piece Cake and The Symphony of Sound and Light
