Weekend Fun Guide (October 26-28 2012)

Decorations are going up all over Ontario towns in anticipation for Halloween!  Kids are getting excited and can’t wait to sport their new costumes and get loads of candy.  Too be honest, I can’t wait to go through their candy when they are asleep and “sample” to make sure it is safe ;-).  Across Ontario there are lots of great pre-Halloween activities to get you and the family in the spirit and keep you busy this weekend!


Clovermead Pumpkin Festival – Come celebrate the world of pumpkins, when the bees are tucked away in their hives, come out and play. Pick your-own pumpkin from the field, the great pumpkin drop from the windmill tower, pumpkin seed spitting contest, apple sling shot, a pumpkin cannon show, tractor wagon rides, animals, straw bale fort, and huge jumping pillow. Bushels of fresh family fun on our Adventure Farm.


Pumpkinfest @ Downey’s Farm – Fall fun at Downey’s includes Unlimited Wagon Rides, Live Entertainment, Super-Cat-Super-Curve, Dump Truck Slide, Balloon Typhoon, Trike Track, Face Painting, Straw Jump, Farm Animals, Super Corn Maze and the The Black Hole.  You will not want to miss the fun!


Treats in our Streets in Downtown Burlington – Dress up the kids and head to Downtown Burlington as they celebrate Halloween with Treats in the Streets.  Enjoy food, entertainment and more plus trick or treat your way around the downtown including a stop at our visitor centre.


Spooktacular Halloween @ Mountsberg Conservation Area.  Free event with park admission.  Hauntingly good fun for the whole family, including: Creatures of the Night presentations with live snakes, Bird of Prey Presentations – Owls & Vultures Halloween Special!, Haunted PlayBarn, Scary Skeleton Scavenger Hunt, Kids “tattoo” parlour & crafts, Harvest games and Bison rides


Harvest Celebration – Tiny Tots in costumes are welcome to trick or treat at participating Downtown Businesses…Look for a pumpkin and the “Tiny Tots Treat Stop” official decal in the window.Free Crafts and Pumpkin Decorating for kids. Free Apple Cider. Market Ghost Walk for kids. Michele Hopkins and dance crew will be performing a Thriller Zombie Dance at the market. Free Cupcake Decorating in Wesley United Church – Come make a Toothy Pumpkin or a Friendly Ghost Cupcake


Pumpkin Mania @ Rounds Ranch – Enjoy some family time on a wagon ride to pick your own pumpkin, Pie eating contests, pumpkin toss, Pumpkin slam dunk, Pumpkin hockey, Pumpkin seed spitting, or spend some time in the play area with the animals, on the pedal carts, corn maze or riding a pony.


Boo at the Shelter@ UCHS – Come and join in the fun!  We will be handing out treats to the little ones who come dressed in Halloween costume….pictures will taken too!  Maybe one of the shelter animals awaiting adoption will spook you in their costume!!


Haunted Walk – Offering a very special Halloween version of our Ghosts and Legends of Gananoque tour, which will include a visit inside a haunted hotel! Hear of ghost ships, pirate raids, and tales of Gananoque’s haunted houses at the spookiest time of the year!  Leaves from the Blink Bonnie Restaurant at 50 Main Street in Gananoque, Ontario.


3rd Annual Harvest Hike  – This fundraising event, in support of the numerous community projects supported by Northumberland Sunrise Rotary, and local charities, such as the Duir School, Canadian Fire Fighters Museum and Rebound Youth Services, will take place in the magnificent Ganaraska Forest; refreshment and prizes for the winners will follow inside the Ganaraska Forest Centre.


Masquerade on Main – Hundreds of children, accompanied by their parents, enjoy Downtown Georgetown for a trick or treat event from 11 to 1pm. Children are entertained by street entertainers, while visiting each business to ask for treats! Main Street is closed during this event offering a fun-filled and safe trick or treating environment, all within the historic setting of Downtown Georgetown!


Harvest Fun @ Strom’s Farm – Have some fun times at Strom’s Farm in their Harvest Fun area including; Jumpin Jack Tile Maze, Rope Maze, Straw Maze, Pumpkin Chuckin, Wagon Rides, 6 acre Corn Maze (3 miles of paths), Sand Pit, Pedal Carts ,Cedar Spiral and a Pumpkin of a Show Puppet Show


Hanover Haunt – The weekend kicks off with a Family Dance & Costume Party offering prizes for best family costume, dancing, games and fun!  Then Saturday and Sunday afternoons bring the kids down to the Hanover Park for an afternoon of fright!  Run through the hay maze, enjoy yummy treats like candy floss and kettle corn, make a craft, get your face painted and then walk through the Village.  Before you leave don’t forget the Haunted Wagon Ride through the park.  Priscilla will greet you at the entry with warnings of  Howling Wolves, Screaming Ghosts, and Jason the resident skeleton.


Spooky Halloween @ Lang Pioneer Village – The Village transforms itself into a haunted haven for ghosts and ghouls! Witches and vampires, bats and spiders, they’re all coming out to give you a frightfully good time!  This has become one of the most popular Halloween events in the region for families with young children.  Lots of fun for monsters of all ages!


Fall Fun @ Thiessen Orchards – Hours of fun at Thiessen Orchards as you enjoy the Bouncy Castle, Barrel Train ride, Face painting, the Corn Maze and hay rides. Apple sales, the Kountry Kitchen, haymow, pumpkin patch and picnic area are open everyday as well.  Now Open is their Haunted barn…if you dare!


Haunted Fall Festival at Gamiing Nature Centre. Pumpkin Carving, Face Painting, Haunted Trail Bingo, Games and Crafts and more. From 7pm – 10pm Haunted Hikes for the older “kids”. Admission by donation 1884 Pigeon Lake Road between Lindsay and Bobcaygeon


Summerside Halloween Parade – Celebrate Halloween in Summerside! Our first annual Halloween event and parade is absolutely free to families and will have fantastic activities and snacks for kids followed by a Halloween costume parade down the pathways of Meadowgate Park!

Marsh Monster Madness @ Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre – Bring your courage and your goosebumps! The Wye Marsh is hosting a variety of spooktacular events, so please join us for another year of fabulous activities: Scavenger Hunt, Pumpkin Bowling, Haunted House and more…


Halloween Spooktacular @ Halton County Radial Railway – All ages event! Walk through the haunted car barn and travel in the old, creaky streetcars along the mainline and enjoy some hot apple cider & scary snacks. If you’re a Halloween fan this is definitely a spooky experience not to be missed! Costumes encouraged. Reservations not required. Tickets sold at the door.

Niagara Falls

Haunted Hayride  @ Warner Ranch and Pumpkin Farm – During their Halloween season enjoy the fright and delight of the Haunted Hayride, held the last three week-ends in October on Fridays and Saturdays with the first ride going out at 7:00 pm with the last ride departing at 10:45 pm.  The hayride lasts 30 minutes and takes you through 50 acres of haunted forest.  It will ‘jolt’ you off your seat.

FREE Halloween Double Feature @ Scotiabank Convention Centre – Calling all parents! Bring out your dearest, scariest little devil, ghost or demon for an afternoon of FREE family friendly big screen Halloween entertainment in the Fallsview Theatre at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, in Niagara Falls.


Cannamore Orchard – “Home of the Spooky wagon ride”  They offer outdoor finger and patio stone mazes,  a pipe maze, an indoor dark maze, rainbow maze, many play structures for children, a sand box with toys and the picnic areas.  Visit the animal corral and see our singing chickens!

Owen Sound

Hobgoblin Frolic at Grey Roots – Put on your costume and come out to Grey Roots Museum & Archives for a fabulous Hallowe’en celebration with lots of fun. Decorate a Hallowe’en cupcake treat to take home. This event takes place in Moreston Heritage Village, so please dress for the weather.  Join us at Grey Roots from 1-4 p.m. for a fun-filled, safe, family event.


Haunted Harbour @ Discovery Harbour – Little ghosts, goblins and their families arrive at Discovery Harbour’s main entrance in full costume. They proceed along a candlelit path through the famous historic properties, with costumed staff on hand to assist. During the stroll, visitors can peer into various heritage buildings to see what lurks!

Port Hope 

Pumpkin Fest @ Port Hope Memorial Park (Sunday only) – Free for children and their families. Make a jack o’ lantern, enjoy a snack and a drink and listen to some music.

Richmond Hill

Halloween Party at Play & Party Indoor Playground – Bring your kids this Saturday, October 27, 2.30-4.30 pm  Fun for kids of all ages: gym, slide, soft play area for tots and movie theatre. Wear your costumes! Complimentary refreshments and popcorn. All welcome.


Haunted Halloween @ Westfield Heritage Village – The village will be lit by lanterns, pumpkins and moonlight, and visitors will be treated to a magical evening of folklore, surprise and mystery. During this family friendly event, visitors of all ages will be able to explore the village’s unique setting and discover the origins and traditions of Halloweens past.

Haunted Family Fun @ Green Mountain Farm – Hamilton Area’s destination for haunted family fun!  For the Fall this farm offers Haunted hay rides, a haunted barn, corn maze, pumpkin carriages, pioneer village and animal corral.  Food is available for purchase and they serve TIM HORTONS coffee!  Each weekend they have a little something different for their visitors … Cash Mob, Scavenger hunt, Spooktacular giveaways and Creepy crawly costume party!


Dynamic Earth Halloween @ Science North – Dynamic Earth will be transformed into one of Sudbury’s most fun and thrilling Halloween Headquarters! For families with kids 12 and under, visit the above-ground fairy tale enchanted forest where you will venture on a quest like no other! Enjoy fun fairy tale adventures this year with games, challenges and take-home crafts. All with the creepy, crawly excitement of Halloween!

Terra Cotta

Halloween Haunted Forest @ Terra Cotta Conservation Area – Enjoy an evening of spooky fun for children 12 and under and meet the mysterious spirits of Terror Cotta, presented by “To Be Determined Theatre Co.” Discover haunted wagon rides, a spooky hay bale maze, bonfires, story tellers, nature activities, tasty barbecue fare and more.


Boo at the Zoo @ Toronto Zoo – Follow along the Zoo’s “Pumpkin Trail” to discover trick-or-treat activity stations throughout the Tundra Trek and check out Arctic wolves, foxes and polar bears – oh my! Take part in our “Critters and Costumes Parade” at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm daily. Best of all, up to two kids in costume (12 and under) get in FREE when accompanied by an adult.

Fall Cottage Life Show @ The International Centre – Celebrate every season at the lake. There will be more than 200 exhibitors dedicated to the very best products and services to enhance your retreat, you can research cottage renovations, construction, building products, and design and architectural services, and check out fun stuff like boats, water toys, arts and décor, furnishings for indoors and out, and gift ideas for every cottager on your list.

Howling Hootenanny @ Black Creek Pioneer Village – Kids can enjoy the Haunted Maze, pumpkin decorating, apple sling shot, trick or treating, Entertainers and more.

Boo-Tastic Trick or Treat @ Casa Loma – Calling all children. Dress in your favourite Halloween costume and come to Casa Loma for our special trick or treat programme. All children will have the opportunity to decorate 12 mini-cupcakes to take home (scary black and orange icing and sprinkles included). Afterwards, they will go on a special ‘trick or treat’ tour on the second floor of Casa Loma – be prepared with a trick to receive a treat!

Made by Hand Show @ The International Centre – There will b over 190 Handmade Exhibitors, free face painting, surprise Princess visits, Free swag bags for the first 100 families and so much more

Change for Kids Monster March and Fun Fair @ Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital – Celebrate Halloween with the whole family and help create a world of possibility for kids with disabilities. Be sure to wear your costumes for this 2 km accessible walk-a-thon with trick-or-treat stations. Involve your work and school to raise pledges and walk in support of kids with disabilities, all while having a ghoulishly good time! Top fundraiser wins a great prize. Event includes great entertainment and a family fun fair.


Camp Spooky @ Canada’s Wonderland – Join Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang for Camp Spooky – a fun Halloween event for the whole family! With children’s rides, spooky mazes, candy, daily children’s costume parade and Charlie Brown’s Trick or Treat live show, Camp Spooky at Canada’s Wonderland will make your kids scream for more!  Campy Spooky is included with park admission.


Gesto Spook House – The Gesto Spookhouse is put on each year by a group of volunteers who build it, create the exhibits, and put on a scary performance. Each year approximately 75-100 volunteers start donating their time in September to put the Spookhouse together for everyone to enjoy.
